Frag out!

So I think this is pretty neat, and I wanted to include it here until I find a more permanent home for it on this page. I really like being able to view Live data over the internet - I always thought the match reports on bungie.net for Halo 2 were a very cool feature. Check it out:

Saw Ghost Rider on Friday. Lord help me, but I did enjoy it. It is completely ridiculous - someone does need to stop Mark Steven Johnson and soon - but, amusingly, Harry Knowles' complaints about the movie are exactly what made it work for me. Perhaps fully cognizant of the weakness of his dialogue, characterization, etc., MSJ elected not to waste much time on such pedestrian features of modern movie-making and at least make something entertaining. None of the fannying about with Chosen kids from Elektra or 'illuminating' interactions with misfit neighbours from The Punisher: let's get straight to the demons and bikes o' fire. Nicholas Cage hasn't really been as over-the-top as this since Con Air, looks quite fetching in his Elvis-on-wheels costume, and in most scenes the Ghost Rider himself looked completely badass. And do not forget the cardinal rule: Sam Elliott is always awesome.

Lisl took me to watch the auditions for Maker Faire at Machine Project over by Sunset and Alvarado yesterday. Sadly, only gawkers such as ourselves actually turned up (I guess the inventors had flying-car trouble?), though one guy brought photos of the homebrew Segway he built last Summer (no, I don't know why you'd want to build such a thing, but it was very impressive nonetheless). Mark Frauenfelder (contributor to boingboing and editor of MAKE) was there to run the show, and I'm happy to report that he is A Very Nice Man.
