Breakin' da silence

So it's been a little while - I was without a computer for a whole week, after the hard drive in my Powerbook failed. Of course, as avid readers may recall, I didn't get the Applecare, so I was fully liable for the repair. Cue three hours waiting at the genius bar in Apple store Glendale for three minutes of attention from a very knowledgable chap, who confirmed my worst fears. It wasn't so bad though - I got through sixty pages of Nietzsche while I waited. And afterwards I went to see Sky High, which was most enjoyable. Anyway, my genius gave me a list of consultants to whom I could take my computer, rather than send it in to Apple. I went with the guy he recommended, and he did wonderful, speedy work and retrieved all my data. It cost a little more than giving it back to Apple, but I got a bigger drive installed into the bargain, and all my stuff back (including 3 gigs of Full Metal Alchemist torrents). Plus I did not feel inclined to give Apple more of my money after the whole Applecare Incident. I had to go Sherman Oaks a couple of times during this adventure, which takes a long time by public transport.

Meanwhile, school has started. I can't believe the summer has gone already. I'm teaching hella early on Monday and Friday mornings, but I get Tuesday off, so I guess it works out okay. We finally got paid on Friday (yay!), and Kristina and I got Indian food delivered while we continued to work our way through season three of Six Feet Under (which is very good). I can heartily recommend the food at the Star of India on Melrose. Both the chicken vindaloo and the chicken tikka massala are very tasty. Then I went to play poker at Beau's. After a promising opening hand, I had a middling experience (with one excellent split pot hand), until I matched cards against Paul and he took me for $5.80. The bastard. I think I ended up 6 dollars down, which isn't so bad.

I should probably mention that my fledgling webcomic has now been in operation for a whole week. Go read it. Seriously. There's nothing else to read here. See? I'm stopping.
