Aren't you Richard Simmons?

CGI problems persist, but here I am - large and in charge. Whatever that means. Last week was a good one for movies. I took the Rapid up to Glendale on Tuesday, because I was long overdue for seeing Fantastic Four. It was okay. Not a great movie, but not completely mediocre. The Thing looked much better in the actual movie than he did in the promos and previews. Chris Evans was great as Johnny Storm, thanks in part to the fact that he got all the best lines. Julian McMahon was fine as Victor, but as he developed into and finally became Dr. Doom I think he and/or the director should have been more adventurous with his character - even gone a little hammy with it. The same quiet, suave delivery didn't quite fit with the twistet, metal-masked supervillain thing. It didn't even sound like it was coming out of a mask. The whole movie also felt a little...small, I guess. I hope that if there's a sequel, they can craft a bigger story and really make it feel like the FF are saving the world. It all seemed a bit domestic, which I understand is part of the charm of the FF, but it's also an event picture, right?

Wednesday night, Phil and I decided to seen Sin City again, and boy did we pick the right venue. It was still showing at the Vine Theater, a wonderful flea-pit right in the heart of Hollywood. It's next door to an adult bookstore and everything. We had a beer before and after at the Frolic Room, across the street, which, with last Monday's visit to the Powerhouse on Highland, puts us on the path to completing The List. The movie is still awesome, even the third time. I should perhaps mention that a couple of weeks ago I ended up seeing Batman Begins a third time as well, at the IMAX up in Universal City. Sweet.

Then on Thursday I enjoyed brunch with Kristina at the infamous House of Pies, before strolling across Vermont to the Los Feliz 3 to see Wedding Crashers. It was her choice, and a good one. I had some small reservations about the idea, but it ended up being just about my favourite of all the Vaughn/Wilson/Ferrell/Stiller movies of recent years. So wonderfully cynical. Plus you can't go wrong with Christopher Walken and Jane Seymour as the WASP-y father and mother of the bride. Any bride.

In other news, this week I am officially on

while Beau and Mary are out of town. Aye, it falls to me to feed and water the little guy, and give his litter box the occasional scoop. And let him bite me. In that affectionate way. I think. Anyway, he seems in good spirits so far. His affinity for earlobes was not exagerrated. And when he sacks out in the corner, there's always Tivo. Ah, Tivo. More updates as CGI permits. This has been Nibblerwatch.
