Friday was an important day: myself, Steve and Dan went to the Friday matinee of Batman Begins at the Vista. It was really good, and I really liked it. It stuck with me for the rest of the day and much of the weekend. I'm going to go see it again at Mann's on Wednesday, with Shireen and Phil. That's not to say it was perfect - Scott Kurtz addresses a lot of my reservations about the movie in his spoiler-laden review - but it was nevertheless extremely entertaining. I agree with others about the action often being shot too close, but, as Kurtz observes, a lot of the best bits (i.e., Michael Caine) were in the non-action scenes. The car is awesome, by the way. Heck, even Mike liked the flick. I was also heartened by the multiplicity of peoples I encountered at Beau's birthday on Saturday, who (with only a little bit of goading) seem prepared at least to consider questioning the mass hypnosis that Tim Burton's Batman was actually good. He had Jack Nicholson dancing in a parade to Prince, people. Watching An Evening With Kevin Smith with Beau today reminded me that I am in good company on this issue.
Before the movie, we attempted to dismiss the cobwebs of TNDC with the Bloody Mary Breakfast at Ye Rustic Inn, returning to the scene of the crime (as Beau so eloquently put it). Oh Steve, why can't the rest of the world be so understanding as you?
